About Us
Founded in the heart of Michigan's picturesque landscapes, the Northwest Michigan Golden Retriever Club came to life in October 2017. We're a vibrant community dedicated to the love and care of one of the most affectionate breeds - the Golden Retriever. Our club is more than just a group; it's a celebration of the unique bond between humans and their furry companions.
Our Mission
Our main goal is to provide a fun, social, and active environment for Golden Retriever owners and their beloved pets. We believe in the power of socialization and exercise, not just for our Goldens but for their human families too! It's all about sharing experiences, creating memories, and building a community that cherishes every moment with these golden-hearted friends.
Events & Gatherings
We're known for our lively and diverse events! From casual walks to grand gatherings, there's always something on our calendar:
- Regular Meetups: Several times a year, we gather for walks and play sessions at various scenic venues, including local wineries and members' homes.
- Manistee Sleighbell Parade: A festive highlight in December, where we parade with our Goldens through the winter wonderland of Manistee.
- Midwest Goldenfest: Our most anticipated event! Formerly known as the Second Largest Gathering of Golden Retrievers, this extravaganza draws attendees from across Michigan and neighboring states. In 2023, we celebrated with over 200 Golden Retrievers, and we're aiming higher next year!
Midwest Goldenfest Highlights
- Duration: A fun-filled weekend from Friday to Sunday, with Saturday being the star of the show.
- Contests: Engage in friendly competitions like Dock Diving, Best Trick, and celebrate the Youngest/Oldest Golden present.
- Awards: Including the "Longest Traveled" award, honoring our farthest-coming furry friends and their families.
Looking Ahead
As we wrap up 2023 with a magical walk through Traverse City's festive lights and decorated alleys, we're already excited for what 2024 holds. Our team is dedicated to creating more memorable moments for our members and their golden companions. Stay tuned for our upcoming schedule!

Join the Northwest Michigan Golden Retriever Club at Turtle Lake Campground!
Nestled in the lush surroundings of Michigan, Turtle Lake Campground is a perfect getaway for members of the Northwest Michigan Golden Retriever Club. Whether you want to boat, fish, hike, or swim at our sandy beach, the campground offers an array of activities in the heart of nature. Our campground, surrounded by vast hiking trails, is ideal for your Golden Retriever to explore and play.
We provide various camping options, from rustic sites to full hookups, ensuring a comfortable stay for all our campers. Our amenities include a trading post, modern bathhouse, laundry facilities, a sanitary disposal station, and wireless internet. There's also a fully equipped playground, perfect for families and their playful Goldens.
Campers from near and far have cherished their experiences here, including many from Traverse City, Detroit, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Grand Rapids, Chicago, Cleveland, California, and Florida.
